The consultation is where
everything begins.
And when it’s done well, everything that follows becomes easier.
Hi, I’m Dr. Cara McDonald —
a specialist dermatologist and cosmetic injector with over two decades of clinical experience.
I work across both medical and cosmetic dermatology as co-director of Complete Skin Specialists, a hospital consultant, and an international keynote speaker and trainer in aesthetics.
Over time, I’ve noticed a consistent pattern.
It’s not technical skill that determines patient satisfaction or successful outcomes. It’s the consultation.
That’s why I created the Cosmetic Consultation Course, to give you a clear, practical guide that you can apply in clinic immediately.
I hope it supports you in building connections and more trust with your patients, gaining confidence and fulfilment in your career and seeing improved outcomes in your practice.

In aesthetics, patients don’t just evaluate results.
They evaluate:
- how understood they felt
- how clearly things were explained
- how confident they felt in your care
And that experience is shaped long before treatment begins.
Many practitioners are highly trained technically — but have never been taught how to navigate the consultation.
Which leads to:
- unclear expectations
- miscommunication
- unnecessary pressure
- and avoidable dissatisfaction
Not because they lack skill — but because they’re missing the fundamentals.
What I Focus on
My work is centered on helping practitioners develop clarity in the consultation process.
I believe consultation is not just a step in the process — it is the foundation of everything that follows.
When trust is established, when expectations are clear, and when communication is intentional,
Outcomes improve — for both practitioner and patient.
Instead of
- second-guessing conversations
- over-explaining or under-explaining
- feeling unsure how to lead
You can approach each consultation with
- clinical insight
- confidence
- clear direction
This is the work behind the Cosmetic Consultation Course.
A practical, experience-led approach to consultations
— designed to support better outcomes, stronger patient relationships,
and a more sustainable way of practising.
